Online police verification for passport coming soon

Police Verification of Passports is going to be online from Nov.2015….
As part of the implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) Bengaluru is to be chosen by the Centre to get police verification online for passports, as police verification is touted as the major cause for delay in the entire process. Now you can get your Passport in 10 days or less.

Present Police Verification of Passports process of police personnel visiting an applicant’s home to verify his/her details, they can now simply log into the database online and match the details. 

The Home Ministry is working on a project under which the head of district police — SP or DCP — will be given access to databases of National Population Register, Aadhaar and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) to enable online verification of identity, address and criminal record, if any, of the applicant. 

The police officer will match biometric data, photo, and address of the applicant in the NPR, Aadhar data and check criminal antecedent on CCTNS, a comprehensive database for crimes and criminals that connects around 14,000 police stations across the country.
